International Transportation to Manzanillo, Panama
Manzanillo, Panama, is a small city on the eastern Atlantic side of the Panama Canal. The main terminal port is the Manzanillo International Terminal (MIT) which has direct access to the Colón Free Trade Zone and is one of the largest terminals in the area. The port was originally a US Navy Air Force base and was later converted to a storage and distribution center of vehicles for Latin America. Later, a RO/RO berth was built to increase imports and exports. MIT’s mission is, “A commitment to comply with the vessel-transit schedule of the Panama Canal, High loading and unloading productivity, The highest security and safety standards for ships, cargo, and crew, and Effective, open, and expeditious communication.”
Today, it has over 1,600 meters of quayside gantry cranes and can handle container, roll-on/roll-off (RO/RO), and heavy equipment shipping cargo. The terminal takes up a total of 520,000 square meters and has a container storage capacity of 37,000 TEU. There are a total of three berths: main (1,240 meters), extra (400 meters), and roro (300 meters). In 2022, it was connected with 125 ports worldwide and moved over 2,744,000 TEUs. The port also contains a nearby container repair yard which is 15,000 meters squared and provides connections for 2,430 refrigerated containers. Cranes to move cargo include Gantry, Yard, and Taylor.
