Recently, many students have been returning home to the Middle East. K International Transport loves to ship cargo from the United States to:

  • Shuwaikh, Kuwait
  • Manama, Bahrain
  • Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
  • Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates
  • Sohar, Oman
  • Alexandria, Egypt
  • Said, Egypt
  • Hodeidah, Yemen
  • And other ports in the area.

RORO vs. Container Shipping for Students

Students can transport automobiles of all makes, models, and years via roll-on/roll-off (RORO) vessels or containers with our international automobile shipping services. There are pros and cons to both methods. But a reliable freight forwarding company like ours can help clients decide on the best shipping method for their budget, schedule, and personal goals.

For students shipping a car only, shipping via a RORO vessel is often the most affordable, hassle-free, and efficient way to transport a vehicle to the Middle East or other international port. With RORO, cars are simply driven onto the vessel at the port in the United States and driven off when it arrives at the destination port. As long as the automobile is wheeled and self-propelled, RORO is a good option. However, if you are looking to ship any personal effects, using a container is preferred because personal effects cannot be transported in the car with RORO shipping.

20 ft or 40 ft containers are ideal for transporting a non-running car, a car and personal effects like household goods and clothing, or just personal effects Students can have one container to themselves, which is preferable when transporting personal effects and a car, or may share a container with less-than-container-load shipping (LCL). With LCL, multiple people share a single container, which can be a good cost-saving measure. With this option, the items must be packed and palletized, and a packing list should be submitted to the international shipping company with the dimensions and weight of each item. Students also must load the personal effects into the container themselves. To load the container, a tractor-trailer must be able to enter the residential area of the shipper and there must be sufficient parking and loading space. The container will be on a chassis delivered by the tractor-trailer for the student’s convenience.

If you have any questions about RORO, container shipping, or loading, K International Transport can answer them!

Documents Required

For clients shipping an automobile, several documents must be provided before the shipment can take place. First, students often have to prepay freight forwarding. Clients will also need to provide:

  • Photo identification for the shipper
  • Photo identification for the consignee (who will pick up the automobile at the destination port)
  • The original title of the car
  • Proof of the commercial value of the automobile
  • The dimensions and weight of the automobile
  • A signed power of attorney form to allow the freight forwarding company to handle the shipment

There may also be other documents and information required, depending on the cargo and the country that the student is shipping to. K International Transport will let clients know exactly what is needed to complete the shipment.

For personal effects, the freight forwarding company will often need a packing list of all items that are being shipped. Keep in mind that certain items often cannot be shipped. These include perishable food, plants, very high-value goods, liquids, drugs, hazardous goods, and flammable items. For more clarification on what is allowed and what isn’t, contact K International Transport!

Other Important Considerations

When transporting automobiles, students should know that there are a few common restrictions that vary from country to country, but typically include vehicle age restrictions and cleaning requirements. Once those standards are met, the student can safely transport their car to a port in the United States for shipment overseas. If you cannot move your car to the port of origin, K International Transport can provide for door pickup by a reputable inland trucking and transportation company that will transport the automobile for you to the port.

Clients should also know that shipping insurance is available, both for minor damage that may come to the cargo and in case of the total loss of the cargo. Although damage is rare and cargo is very well protected on the vessels, insurance can ease the nerves of shippers.
